Personally, it reminded me, in a loose way, of "The Fault in Our Stars" movie. (I didn't read the book- GASP!! I know, how can I call myself a librarian?) In both stories the hero turns up in unexpected ways and the tragic endings that make you want to grab the closest tissue box.
Anyway, as you can tell from my previous post, I am in love with 'Ms Clark,' our main character. She is so corky! She has that crazy little element that we all have some times: talk to much, say things we shouldn't- in a nice way, dress a little funky. She is so endearing that I'm a little surprised I didn't get sick of her!
Jojo Moyes was very successful in creating the opposite of Louisa with Will. He is grumpy, negative, and so rude it's like a slap in the face. Ouch! This, on more than one occasion, caused me to laugh out loud. Which then caused me to get some sideways glances on public transit. The banter between Louisa and Will is what we love about old movies- think Cary Grant in "His Friday Girl." I thought the balance between these two characters was really well done and the 'thing' that carried the story through.
Lets talk about the bigger issues in the story next post! Looking forward to hearing what you all think!
